About this module

This course offers an introduction to both natural and engineered bamboo including an overview of the different types of bamboo; its performance within the context of key sustainability criteria; its inherent structural and aesthetic properties, and issues to consider when developing an architectural and structural language when designing with bamboo. It will also present precedents for the use of natural and engineered bamboo construction.

Those enrolled will also learn about the current regulatory landscape and get an insight into current thinking around the use of bamboo as a construction material in the UK and across the world.
