SOS Masterclass: Designing for neurodiverity

Join our free masterclass on 3 June with Dawn Scott, Senior Colour Designer at Dulux Trade UK – AkzoNobel, exploring how thoughtful design can create more inclusive environments for neurodiverse users.

Join us for the upcoming SOS Masterclass, Designing for neurodiversity, in partnership with Dulux Trade UK – AkzoNobel, to explore how architects and designers can create more inclusive environments through thoughtful use of colour, contrast, lighting and materiality.

As awareness of neurodiversity continues to grow across the built environment sector, there is increasing recognition that spaces are experienced differently depending on how individuals process sensory information, attention and cognition. From workplaces and education settings to healthcare and residential environments, design decisions can significantly influence comfort, focus, navigation and wellbeing.

Led by Dawn Scott, Senior Colour Designer at Dulux Trade UK – AkzoNobel, this session will examine how inclusive design principles can support a wider range of neurological and sensory needs. The webinar will explore the relationship between the built environment and sensory processing, while demonstrating how colour specification and material choices can contribute to calmer, clearer and more legible spaces.

Topics covered will include:

  • Understanding neurodiversity and sensory processing in the context of design
  • The role of colour, contrast, lighting and materiality in creating inclusive environments
  • How hue, LRV and chroma can be applied to support comfort and legibility
  • Designing spaces that reduce sensory overload and improve navigation
  • Practical approaches to creating more inclusive outcomes across different building types

This webinar will provide architects and specifiers with practical insight into designing environments that are not only functional and compliant, but more supportive, accessible and inclusive for all users.
